Download projects documentation (pdf)

After the great success of the previous editions in Arezzo, BIP goes to Florence, together with Italia Wave and Elettrowave.
More than 80 projects have been submitted to BIP07’s Call For Works, a sign of the increasing interest of artists and designers for a festival that merges technological research and innovation together with clubbing and electronic music spaces.

BIP07’s Call For Works ended on May 10th, with more than 80 submitted projects.
A sign of the increasing interest of artists and designers for a festival that tries to merge technological research and innovation together with clubbing and electronic music spaces.

Between all received submissions, BIP’s jury has selected the following projects, because of their participative, collaborative, spectacular and playful attitude, fitting perfectly in a clubbing context such as the Elettrowave festival:

BIP 2007 special mention

ZYGOTE - INTERACTIVE BALL
A project by Alex Beim - CANADA

zygote

Giant colour balls that visually react to touch, floating all over the dancefloor, channelling the chaotic energy of thousands of people into a coherent light and play experience. When a ball is hit, it lights up or change its colour and if noone hits it again, its light slowly fades out.
This way, Zygote brings the music closer to the audience, making them collectively control the lighting of the dancefloor in a simple and playful way.
Zygote is as interactive as it is unpredictable and impossible to control.

LAUGHING SWING
A project by Rinotchild (Michal Rinott & Michal Rothschild) - ISRAEL
laughing swing

At first sight the Laughing Swing looks like a simple, regular swing. When you sit on it, it chuckles.
As you swing, it laughs, and the higher you go, the harder it laughs.
At the peak swinging it is laughing wildly. The swing connects the experience of movement with the experience of laughter. It is a cycle: the person, by swinging, makes the swing laugh, and this laughter causes the person to laugh back. The result is a fantastic experience that can reduce stress and anxiety.
Laughing Swing brings us back in time, to our childhood, free to laugh out loud just for laughing

THAT’S ALCOHOL
A project by David Boardman, Roberto Pansolli, Peter Alan Knocke - ITALYTHAT’S ALCOHOL

That’s Alchool is a project about innovative ethylometers, re-designed with an ironical touch, in order to awake festival audience to the problem of alcohol and to prevent drunk-driving in an easy and playful way. The system is based on an alcohol sensor that detects the alcoholometric level into the user breathe. The data are collected in real-time by an Arduino board analogically driving a 24.7 Kg-force servo-motor; the motors are then pushing pistons under string puppets, making them lean according to the registered alcoholometric level.
This way, the test becomes a funny experience and an opportunity for the audience to understand their real drunkness level, before driving home.

INVITED PROJECTS

Building Interaction Designers - invited students’ project:
VIP - VIRTUAL IDENTITY PROCESS (Body//www.Org)
A project by Master in Digital Environment Design, NABA - ITALY

vip

VIP creates a representation of the contemporary body in both its digital (databody) and physical components. A touchsensitive table is the user interactive tool and also the stage upon which objects and choosen data are projected, to build an hyperbody, a social body made up of many different fragmented identities. Contemporary Ego is shaped through by its concrete form and through his data on the Net, creating a wider collective vision of identities and relationships.

QOOBtv presents:

MOVE IT FORWARD
A project by iRagazzidellaPrateria - ITALY

move it forward

Move it Forward is a Lego stop-motion recording tool, that gives users a miniature stage and a set of Lego pieces. Everyone can create his own short movie: build your own stage, place your characters and then, using the controls on the table, take a picture of the scene, review it and then go with the next frame!
All the sequences recorded during the night will make a collective movie projected in real time inside the BIP07 area.

BIP 2007 special guest project:

REACTABLE
A project by “Interactive Sonic Systems” team,
Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona
- SPAIN

reactable

The Reactable is a collaborative electronic music instrument with a tabletop tangible multi-touch interface. Several simultaneous performers share complete control over the instrument by moving and rotating physical objects on a luminous round table surface. By moving and relating these objects, representing components of a classic modular synthesizer, users can create complex and dynamic sonic topologies, with generators, filters and modulators, in a kind of tangible modular synthesizer or graspable flow-controlled programming language.
Icelandic singer Björk incorporates the Reactable, played by Mark Bell, as a key instrument of her Volta 2007 world tour.
