code_in_motion: sound_reaction
software art reshapes clubs in Turin

2007 edition of code_in_motion, part of the electronic arts programme of Club to Club festival, curated by Associazione NADA, deepens its survey about code as a graphic creative tool and its interaction with sound in clubs.
The guiding thread of this year’s edition is sound_reaction: real time translation of sound into images as a common feature to define a selection of artists and custom visual softwares invited to redesign the clubs’ visual settings.
Software’s no longer only considered as a tool, but as a complete work of art, embodying its author’s style and preferences; a work where the authorial and creative process is better found in the medium creation, as the definition of a set of translation rules that automates visual modulation according to the incoming sound. Sound_reaction is the starting point towards a reconsideration of the club as a whole multisensory environment where sounds make their way through skin and eyes.

GUESTS AND PROGRAMME
code_in_motion 2007 programme gets together artists, designers and computer programmers from different fields and professional backgrounds, all exploring interaction between sound and images through the development and use of their own custom built softwares.
Clubs in Turin are hosting works by british artist Paul Prudence (Transphormetic) and the german Andreas Köberle (Eskimoblood), while Claudio Sinatti is presenting his multiscreen Carillon set at Loft Club in Barcelona, as part of the Club Europa connection project.
Aiming to a further diffusion and promotion of the visual creative potential of coding, 2007 edition of code_in_motion presents a workshop devoted to the development of sound-reactive graphic softwares; the workshop is addressed to designers and artists, working or studying in the areas of product, web, graphic and media design, who are interested in the creative use of coding. In four days of intensive and practical workshop, participants will learn how to code their own sound-reactive softwares; works developed during the workshop will be installed and showed in one of the locations of Club to Club, on the night of november 9th.
